Date: Monday, 27 October
Venue: Cabarita Sports Club – Cabarita Road, Bogangar, NSW 2488
Theme: ‘Connecting’ – people and projects
The North Coast Energy Forum was established in 2010 to drive the shift to a sustainable energy system for the NSW North Coast. Every year over 100 representatives of industry, government and the community come together to plan how to make this shift happen to strengthen the regional economy and increase our regional energy security as well as lowering greenhouse emissions.
The theme of this year’s forum is ‘connecting.’ Issues with the timing, cost and complexity of connections are among the biggest challenges facing the rollout of renewable energy from the household scale to major projects. As we move from a centralised to a decentralised energy system, we want to focus on how we can make these processes easier, quicker and cheaper. We also want to enhance our role of connecting people in the energy and sustainability sectors on the North Coast, and those in other industries for whom energy is an important part of their business.
Tweed Shire Council and Cape Byron Power are the major sponsors for the 2014 Forum. In line with our tradition of holding the forum in a different part of the north coast each year, this year’s event will be held in the bucolic, semi-tropical environment of the Tweed coast.
We are pleased to be holding this year’s forum at Cabarita Sports Club, which has made major changes to its energy and food supply and and waste system to become more sustainable. It is part of the Sustainability Advantage Program conducted by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, which is another sponsor of this year’s forum.

Sponsorship for the 2014 forum has now closed. If you are interested in sponsoring a 2015/16 forum please read on.
The North Coast Energy Forum brings together a wide range of stakeholders with a shared interest in developing a comprehensive strategy for transitioning the North Coast to a sustainable energy system, including increasing the amount of local energy generation, storage and encouraging energy conservation and efficiency. This transition will help to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and greenhouse emissions whilst growing local economies and employment and also supporting community empowerment, leadership, learning and cohesion.
Previous forums in 2010, 2011and 2013 have combined keynote addresses by industry experts, panels on energy themes, workshops and plenaries. Both Forums (each with approximately 100 attendees) have culminated in identifying shared priorities to support meaningful action and change. The success of previous forums has lead to the previous format being repeated for the 2014 event.
